Size of signature (text)

Post by Ariane A »

Hello,

I'm using phpbb version 3.0.11.
I have set up a maximum size of 100 characters in signatures. Everything has been disabled: bbcodes, images, flash, links and smileys.
However users are able to write very long texts of much more than 100 characters (for example: Bella).
What is wrong?

Thank you.

Can't see anything as you need to be logged in to see it but when did Bella write this large signature, before or after you changed the settings?

Good question.
I can see in the log that I changed the signatures settings in February 2012 and April 2013 (to reduce again this size limit).
Her post is recent but she became a member in December 2012, so I'm not sure.

However if I use test user "zeldalya" and write a large signature it is accepted by the board.

You can log in with "zeldalya" and "zeldalya" to make tests.

When I submit that user's current signature, I get the message:
Voici le texte qui peut être ajouté à vos messages. Il y a une limite de 100 caractères.

I think that is just the standard explanation text. I just added a signature of 135 characters to the board with no error.

Run this SQL query to see what value is stored in the database for maximum signature length

Code: Select all

SELECT config_value FROM phpbb_config WHERE config_name='max_sig_chars'

I get 100, which is what I set in the Admin Panel.
But still it is possible to write a longer one. This is what I did with user "zeldalya". I don't understand where the problem is...

As you say it is possible to add more characters than your 100 character setting. This is a guess but try switching temporarily to one of the default 3.0.11 styles (prosilver or subsilver2) and see if the issue persists.
