The ever increasingly horrible service I am getting from a company called gconverter after having them convert my Kunena 1.7.2 databases for use in my new install of phpBB3 (solarchat.natca.net) has now gotten to a point where they are telling me that mixed case usernames are not supported in phpBB 3. ???

WHat?.. is this true? username Merlin66 only works as "merlin66" that sounds like some BS. anyone confirm?

Well, as you can see, my username is Capitalized, but case is not considered when checking for duplicates.
You could not have a "Brf" and a "bRf" as separate users.

Thank you. Thats what I thought.

I noticed there is a limit username characters in the ACP. I have many (imported from Kunena 1.7.2) usernames that have spaces, mixed case, and numbers. No special characters though. The choices are:

Any Character
Alphanumeric only
Alphanumeric and Spacers
Any letter and number
Any letter, number and spacer
ASCII

I am an English language forum.

Any suggestion on which one I should choose? I am having trouble with one username for some reason and it is Merlin66 I was previously set on "any character"

"Any character" means any character, including spaces and punctuation and anything else.

I had bad experience with gConverter as well. I used gConverter services to convert from my XMB forum to phpBB3.
They charged my reasonably high rate for the service (at least I did agree). Then problems started.
I had to pay extra to get my private messages converted as well as those "can be complicated".
Also they declined additional conversion during test period.

The reply time to e-mails varied from 1 day to 3 days and the last one happened when I had my LIVE environment down!

I can say that evaluating it afterwards, I should have search for some more support and skip their offer.
Not satisfied at all.

Interesting thread -

Is there a page somewhere listing such basic specs - such as the characters allowed in usernames and lengths
etc? Are there any limitations in the password characters?
I don't actually have an issue but now the topic has come up I find I'm curious.

I've looked in the docs (what the hell is an "Olympus" anyway? I wasted 10 minutes looking for the file in my download folder only to find it isn't called phpbb at all.) but can't spot that sort of spec info. Have I just missed it?

@jazz123: If you look in ACP> General tab> Board configuration> User registration settings> Limit username chars> the text below that and dropdown box describes what is available.

For lengths ACP> General tab> Board configuration> User registration settings> Username length/Password length

Generally, each new release is given a nickname, that one happens to be Olympus others are Ascreus, Bertie's off to the beach and Patience is a Virtue etc. One is even called "Richard 'D¡cky' Foote" in remembrance of one of our support team members. Either way, you can still find information using the version number.

Olympus is a mountain in Greece thought to be the home of the gods. It is also a mountain on Mars, as is Ascraeus, and it is the Martian Mountains after which version 3.0.x and 3.1.x are named.
