Banner on homepage

Post by FirstFriend »

The banner at the top of the homepage contains the phpBB logo. How do I remove that? Or, is that always going to be there?

In the admin control panel, I found where i was able to insert my domain name and brief description into the banner.

Thank you very much for that. :D

Still having an issue.

I d/l'd filezilla. When attempting the file transfer to my website, it fails seemingly due to the password. I have verified the password twice. I must be missing something but I do not know what. This is the result I'm shown.

Status: TLS connection established.

Yeah, well I can log in with my username and password. So I'm certain that isn't it,What is the host supposed to look like? I'm simply entering it as sitename.com.

You cannot login in FTP with your forum username and password.
Normally you received FTP login from your host.
Contact your host if not.

You're going too get frustrated with me... if you're not already/ I don't understand any of this.

I seemingly got filezilla to work.

Next step in the tutorial says I need to Open the file phpBB3/styles/prosilver/imageset/imageset.cfg in a text editor

I've looked for this in my hostgator cpanel to the point of exhaustion. It's all I've done this entire day is try to change the logo. Why is it not simple?

I don't know coding and brief instructions like in that link are killing me. Is there a more thorough tutorial? I don't want to be a pest to anyone and I want to do this on my own but I don't get it.

Yes, you need to open / download that file via filezilla.
And always make a backup of the file you are editing.
And use a good text editor like Notepad++ ( https://notepad-plus-plus.org/)

/styles/prosilver/imageset/imageset.cfg
The styles folder is in the root
Where you have the images folder, en config.php file

How did you upload your forum?
When you open and login in your FTP
You need to go to the folder where your forum files are located

Thank you for that. It may come in very helpful once I know where to search for those files.

Should I look under my bed or in my closet?

Seriously, I do not know where to look. Are those files on hostgator? Or are they in my Admin Control Panel? Or they on my computer? I understand which files to lok for, but I do not know where I am supposed to look for them.

You need to go via filezilla (FTP)
I don't know in what folder you uploaded your forum.
Normally it should be in httpdocs ..

open filezilla
connect to your server
on the right hand side you should see a listing of directories.
one of those should be either public_html or htdocs or www
double click on that directory/folder

now, you should see the files of your website.

if we knew what the link to your website was we could be more exact.

if your forum is your website then all of the phpbb files/folders should be in that public_html folder.

if your forum is named "forum" or phpBB3 or something else, then you will see a folder
named "forum" or "phpBB3" or whatever it is.

double click on that folder to open it.

when you can see all of phpbb's files/folders, one of them should be named "styles"
double click on that folder

within that folder should be a folder named prosilver. within that folder should be a folder named imageset
within that folder should be a file named imageset.cfg

that is the file you are looking for.

you need to transfer it to your computer.

on the left side of filezilla you should see the folders on your computer.
create a new folder named "working" somewhere on the computer so that you can find it.
download/transfer/drag and drop that imageset.cfg file to the left side into that new folder named working.

now, get a good text editor like notepad++ or editpad lite. they are free.
do NOT use windows notepad or wordpad , they will corrupt your files.

once you have the right text editor, use it to open the file and do the edits in the instructions.

you also have to upload your new logo image to the server.
you should be able to figure out where it goes from the instructions.

luck
