Is "view new posts" controlled by cookies?

In the last couple of days, I have a few users on one of my websites saying that the list of topics in the "view new topics" search is getting longer and longer because it's still showing topics that are not actually new since their last visit.

I have changed nothing on the website in a fair while, so I really don't think it's an issue with the site itself.
I'm running version 3.0.14.

Can someone confirm for me how this search function works so I can either look in to a website issue, or explain that it's client side?

Ok, so it might not be cookies after all.

Code: Select all

WHERE t.topic_last_post_time > ' . $user->data['user_lastvisit']
So the users table should be updated with the users last visit time and that is used for the search.
It does look like there might be an issue.

This is interesting:

So it appears that the users "Last Visited" time is not being updated?

It belongs to the life span of a session (by default 60 minutes) - that means the session of those users isn't renewed between their visits. This can either be forced by reducing the session length (ACP > board settings), or by asking your users to actively log out on their own (and then log in again), as that should "solve" the behaviour.

Thanks Amigo.
I will get them to log out and back in and hope it's a permanent fix.

You can log them all out. ACP, main page, Purge sessions.
