Backup not working.

4 months ago I created a backup, and shortly afterwards I shut my site down.
Now I got it back up and running again, but when I try to restore it doesn't work.
The first problem that I ran into was that I couldn't even see the backup in the restore list. (I placed the backup in /store)
This was because I had renamed the backup file, so what I did was to go to my forum/board and download a new backup (that had nothing on it) and then I renamed the old backup to the same name that the new backup had, and after that the old backup (with the name of the new backup) showed up in the restore list, but now when I try to restore nothing happens.
Also, when I try to open the backup (with winrar) I get an error saying that the format is unknown or damaged.
I didn't know that this would happen if I renamed the backup x(
So, is there any way for me to make this backup work?

English is not my native language, so I apologize if this is a bit of a mess.
I'm also not very experienced with phpbb3.
