MSN Messenger is now Windows Live Messenger

Post by Toho_NL » Wed Jun 21, 2006 2:15 pm

Just in case you didn't knew: MSN Messenger has been renamed into Windows Live Messenger. For more information on this, have a look at: http://messenger.msn.com

Is this message enough for you to change the name in the forum (now it still states MSNM)? Just in case, I submitted this in the bug tracker as well...

Best regards,

Toho_NL.

Aha, I see. Well, I guess that I will get a response that it is already known or something... MSN Messenger doesn't exist anymore (as far as I know...). It is now Windows Live Messenger.

Best regards,

In that case, hotmail doesn't exist anymore, it's now Microsoft Live Mail... That doesn't change the fact people will always call it Hotmail ;)

Ok, but the program is being renamed and I think it should be better to call it WLM (Windows Live Messenger) in the profiles of the users. This is the current name and why call it MSN as this is not the name anymore? Of course, some people don't know that MSN has been renamed, but this is just a matter of time (I think). So, that is why I posted this message ;).

Best regards,

Toho_NL.

I think it is not that big of a deal currently. But, in the future it may cause a problem.

You seem to be forgetting/unaware that WLM is only available to people using Windows XP or newer. That means there will still be numerous amounts of people still on MSN Messenger for a long time to come.

Label as "MSN/WLM".

If it's left at just MSN, users of WLM will easily figure out that they put their WLM user in the spot labeled MSN.

The new Windows Live Messenger is just Microsofts way of trying to get people to reinstall the previous version of Windows Messenger which came out with XP and 90% of the population removed because it was nothing more than an annoying pop up advertising window for MS.

I doubt that I will ever install or run it.

Same goes for Microsoft Live Mail.

I think I will stick with both msn messenger and hotmail for a long time to come yet :D

Windows XP came with Windows Messenger, that was later replaced with MSN Messenger and now it is becoming Windows Live Messenger. O suggest to keep it as msnm for the moment since i guess more people know msnm then wlm and it keeps using the msn network.[/code]

The new name wont get adopted IMHO. MSN is already a verb, "I'll MSN you."
Keep it the way it is.

"I will Windows Live you" doesnt have the same ring to it.

Yes it still does. Anybody lower than XP will still use MSN 7.0 or 7.5 (which one I can't remember)

Don't believe me?? try going to the messenger website and see what happens
