beta-4 has a bug that prevents custom bbcodes with [tag=VALUE]...[/tag]. this bug was fixed in cvs, so you can either get the latest dev code, or wait for beta-5 for this bbcode.

Just a side-note...
Fla3h, don't use <font> tags anymore... those are depreciated.

Use <span class="..."> or <span style="..."> instead.

Hmmmmm......
I tried the "area" code in the OP. I could not get my phpBB3B4 to accept it. I just made a copy-paste of:

Code: Select all

[area={TEXT1}]{TEXT2}[/area]

<fieldset><legend>{TEXT1}</legend>{TEXT2}</fieldset>
and got...

Code: Select all

Your custom BBCode must contain both an opening and a closing tag.
Has there been a change in the BBCode engine since this was posted perhaps?

8O and i searched this entire thread/forum for an error with "[area=...]", i guess you won't find what you'r looking for unless you look for the right thing (even if you search :wink: ).

iframe

Post by samredman » Mon Dec 25, 2006 9:31 pm

I have played with adding a bbcode for the html tag <iframe>. What I have done will work.... but, surely, those who really know how can show how to improve this:

This is what I put into the admin panel "bbcode usage" form:

Code: Select all

[iframe]"{TEXT}"[/iframe]
This is what I put into the admin panel "html replacement" form:

Code: Select all

<iframe src="{TEXT}" width="700" height="500"></iframe>
This is what was actually typed into the post:

Code: Select all

[iframe]"http://google.com"[/iframe]
Like, I said... it works great. That example shows the google site right there in a post. But, is there a simpler (or better) way to write this?

you probably want to use the {URL} tag rather than the {TEXT} tag, because this way you will get some validity check for the iframe. eg:

Code: Select all

[iframe={URL}][/iframe]

<iframe src="{URL}" width="700" height="500"></iframe>
standard disclaimer:
backup your db and files before you do anything.
absolutely no guarantee.
if you do what i advise and it blows in your face, all you'll hear from me is: "ah... sorry, i guess"

I tried yours... but I get this message:

Your custom BBCode must contain both an opening and a closing tag.

This works:

bbcode:

Code: Select all

[iframe]{URL}[/iframe]
html replacement:

Code: Select all

<iframe src={URL} width="700" height="500"></iframe>
The text in the posting is as follows:

Code: Select all

[iframe]http://google.com[/iframe]
All is well... and thanks... that is very simple.

I just made a little style tweak for the area/fieldset BBCode. I looked a bit off when you used it in phpBB, i guess the internal styles interfered with it. I also set a fixed width to it that admins can adjust to their boards.

Code: Select all

[area={TEXT1}]{TEXT2}[/area]

<fieldset style="width: 600px; padding-left: 10px; padding-right: 10px; padding-top: 5px; padding-bottom: 5px;">
<legend style="margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px; padding-left: 5px; padding-right: 5px">
<b>{TEXT1}</b>
</legend>{TEXT2}</fieldset>

Here's another basic but useful custom BBCode. I use it on images that I want to wrap text around.

Code: Select all

[wrap={TEXT1}]{TEXT2}[/wrap]

<div  style="float: {TEXT1}; padding-left: 10px; padding-right: 10px; padding-top: 2px; padding-bottom: 2px;">{TEXT2}</div>
Use right/left as parameter for the BBCode to select align of the image/object.

Nice to see BBcodes' being discussed openly :)

I am searching for very simple way to achieve following.

While making a post, user can hide some text, say using [hide][/hide]

When message is posted, and as seen by other users, it should display
following inside message, for e.g.
[+] More Text (or some icon button, anything..)

and ONLY when reader clicks on this link/button, the original hidden text is displayed.

I do have some idea to do using CSS & balloon text, but I guess thats way too complicated.

Perhaps someone has better idea, or already done it :)

would you settle for the ink and paper color being the same - then it would display with a mouse drag.
