What is it that you do not want to parse? There is a checkmark at the bottom of the posting screen that you can check or un-check so url's are not automatically parsed. :?:

monkeyman611: Here's a working one I put together for you:

BBCode:

Code: Select all

[hovercolor {COLOR1} {COLOR2}]{TEXT}[/hovercolor]
HTML:

Code: Select all

<span style="color: {COLOR1}" onmouseover="this.style.color='{COLOR2}'" onmouseout="this.style.color='{COLOR1}'">{TEXT}</span>
So you could do like this, if you want:

Code: Select all

[hovercolor #444 #f00]Some text[/hovercolor]
The colors can be any valid CSS color codes -- Hex or name (e.g., red, black, orange).

Snip3r: Try this:

BBCode:

Code: Select all

[blink]{TEXT}[/blink]
HTML:

Code: Select all

<span style="text-decoration: blink;">{TEXT}</span>
May not work in all browsers.

Please pardon me if I sound like a knucklehead, but I have wanted something like this for use once in a great while, it would be one of those BBC that only me and mods would have access to but I read on another forum somewhere (my apologies I cannot reference which one at the moment) that this code opens up a vulnerability for hacks. Is this true?

It didn't make any sense to me how this could possibly be true but not knowing I stayed away from it. Can you tell me if there is any concern with using it? Would we be opening up some sort of security hole?

Thanks!
Jeanne

Using the code I posted, you will be as safe as with any other BBCode.

Actually, making an unsafe BBCode is probably pretty difficult.

However, watch out for things like this:

Code: Select all

[style {TEXT1}]{TEXT2}[/style]

Code: Select all

<div style="{TEXT1}]{TEXT2}[/style]
Allowing users to input their own CSS in that way allows them to create elements which take over the entire page -- not unsafe, but a huge nuisance anyway.

The code I posted above, though, can only be used to make text blink.

Not entirely sure what you're asking for. Bots are automated programs or scripts; there's no way BBCode could replicate that.

I didn't understand it either. The person that made the post said something about hackers rather than bots, but I didn't quite get the gist of what he meant with it though. He was saying that using the glow, blink or changing color scripts exposed security holes, and those were actually the BBC's that I had searched for when I found his post. I wanted them to post things about our monthly contests and the winners for them, just a little something to draw attention once in a while. It really didn't make sense, and to be honest, I trust my fellow phpBB-er's over and above any other forum because they know the system. I just never really got around to asking (getting this into words is difficult). If what I am saying doesn't sound like anything than don't sweat it - the guy probably didn't really know. He didn't convince me at the time, I just strayed from that particular BBC, figuring I'd pick it up here when someone posted one that would work safely. :D
