Database Name

Post by Parijs » Tue Jul 18, 2006 12:53 am

Hey all....I feel like such a newb but hope someone can help me. I uploaded the beta to my server and I created a new database and gave it a user with all permissions, now i am at the part of the installation where it requires the Database server hostname or DSN: Well what exactly goes here? How do I find out my Database Server Hostname?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely
Parijs

It is most likely localhost ;) You can leave it blank if you are lazy it should work otherwise try localhost.

When I leave that spot blank I am getting the following error

Could not connect to the database, see error message below
Access denied for user: 'phpb3@localhost' (Using password: YES)

I am not putting this on my puter.....its on my website that I pay for. How do I go about getting the database name?

We can't tell you this information.
Your database name, and the database username / password etc are usually provided to you by your host, or you create them yourself.

Most hosts provide some sort of SQL assistant, like phpMyAdmin, where users can create their own databases, and database 'users'. (each 'user' will have a username / password, you grant him access to the database, and use that username/password on the installation screen).

'phpb3@localhost'

Are you sure the username is "phpb3" and not "phpbb3"?
