MX record?

Post by pc-tutorials »

When I try to register a new user on my local testboard (CVS) I always get the error: The entered email domain has no valid MX record.

Is that a bug or am I doing something wrong? I am sure the email domain exists

This forum is about support for the beta releases of Olympus, not the CVS snapshots ;)

Anyway, this seems to be a problem with your mail server, your domain's DNS zone, or the recipients mail server or DNS zone. Either way, the cause of your problem isn't phpBB :)

The MX check is enabled by default, you are able to disable it within the ACP. If it prints out the error no valid MX record can be found for the domain.

If you have access to a linux box and want to check the domain in question, you can do (see below), which is largely the check that the software carries out if that setting is enabled

Code: Select all

graham@host:~$ dig -t MX domain.tld
; <<>> DiG 9.3.2 <<>> -t MX domain.tld
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 21351
;; flags: qr aa rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 1, ADDITIONAL: 1

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;domain.tld. IN MX

;; ANSWER SECTION:
domain.tld. 604800 IN MX 10 mail.domain.tld.

;; AUTHORITY SECTION:
domain.tld. 604800 IN NS ns.domain.tld.

;; ADDITIONAL SECTION:
mail.domain.tld. 604800 IN A 10.0.0.10

Or, if you have no linux box, try this on a DOS box ( cmd.exe , windows )

Code: Select all

nslookup -type=mx domain.tld
Doc.
