Re: Cannot run conversion scripts

Post by D¡cky »

I think I would approach like this:
  • Install fresh phpBB2 with a new database
  • Install fresh phpBB3 using the new phpBB2 database and convert the new fresh install
    • If it doesn't work, it indicates a server/host problem
    • If it does work,
      • change the config.php of your fresh phpBB2 to point to the old phpBB2 database.
      • Run the conversion again
        • If it doesn't work, it indicates a problem with the database
        • If it does work
          • Copy the files, except for config.php, to the new phpBB2 install, overwritng the files.
          • Run the conversion again.
            • If it doesn't work, it indicates a file problem with your original files.
            • If it does work, hmmm.

Sounds logical,

Already done first stage and it worked so not a host problem.

Thanks

1.1 Fresh phpBB 2 installed
1.2 Fresh phpBB 3 installed
1.3 Conversion successful

Verdict: Server not the issue.

2.1 phpBB 2 config copied from original forum
2.2 phpBB 2 test board shows original database - no problems
2.3 Conversion from phpBB 2 test forum to RC1 fails

Verdict: Problem in database.

So the issue is the database, ideas?

Do you have any MODs on your board?

Not that I use, I have tried installing MODS a couple which didn't work.

Note that my testforum is 2.0.22 fresh install no MODS, and that did not convert to phpBB RC1 using my forum database.

I was wondering if you had any MODs that may have modified the database, not that it should matter, but any information we have may help.

Check the database to see if there are any tables that may need repair. Optimizing the database may help.

I tried installing the global announcement MOD but it didn't work, other than that I have not added any MODS.

I have used phpMyAdmin before briefly but how do I know it tables need repair?

Something I saw was that collation for my old forum was: latin1_general_ci and new one: utf8_bin - is that supposed to be those settings?

Database size is 91Mb

The collation is correct for the databases.

The Global Announcement MOD does add fields to the database if installed fully. These fields should not cause a problem.

If the tables need repair, you will get an error message when you first view the database. If you don't see any error message (it will be quite obvious), then your tables don't need repair.
If you look at the right column while viewing the structure of the database, you will see an overhead column. Select any tables that have a value in this column then select Optimize from the dropdown box near the bottom of the page.

No tables to repair then, tried optimization as suggested, all went okay.

Retried conversation, same problems occurs.

Try this:

OPEN the phpBB3 config.php
FIND

Code: Select all

@define('PHPBB_INSTALLED', true);
// @define('DEBUG', true);
// @define('DEBUG_EXTRA', true);
REPLACE WITH

Code: Select all

@define('PHPBB_INSTALLED', true);
 @define('DEBUG', true);
 @define('DEBUG_EXTRA', true);
SAVE

On the first page of the convertor where you enter your database information, in the section Refresh page to continue conversion:, Check NO.

What database type are you selecting?

Let's see if any errors are displayed and how far you get.

No affect on results again,

I select MySQL for database type, the only option given.

I checked NO on the refresh page option.

There were no error messages?

How many steps did it do?

The only other suggestion I can make, is if you want to send me a backup copy of your database, I will see if I can spot a problem.

No error messages, on 'continue conversion' button nothing happens whatsoever.

Hello,
D¡cky wrote:Let's see if any errors are displayed and how far you get.
This is what I get:

[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /install/install_convert.php on line 590: convert_data(./../includes/db/.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /install/install_convert.php on line 590: convert_data(./../includes/db/.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /install/install_convert.php on line 590: convert_data(./../includes/db/.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory

Fatal error: convert_data(): Failed opening required './../includes/db/.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/hogwarts/public_html/forum/install/install_convert.php on line 590

No wonder it can't find a file called ".php"... "MySQL" is the only option listed in the database type dropdown, which is as it should be. Never had a problem when I converted this forum to B5 just to check how it was working, so I'm really puzzled as to why it's not working with RC1. :(

Row 590:

Code: Select all

require($phpbb_root_path . 'includes/db/' . $dbms . '.' . $phpEx);

Is phpBB3 installed?
Check config.php that the $dbms variable is assigned.
