Members Database

Post by casanova »

Hello, i have a Old phpbb Board, but only importing the members details.

i got the SQL Export from the old phpbb2 boards and can i just "import" it into the phpbb3 or will i have to change / convert it?

Thank You for anyhelp

ps. the old board is not working so i just have the SQL Export dump on a txt file, and i installed a new phpbb3 RC1 board.

You will have to convert it, because the database schema has changed quite considerably. Also, I'm not sure what the minimal version of 2.0 is that the converter will work with, but it sounds like you might have a rather old version of 2.0.

After conversion, you will have all data from your 2.0 board, not just users. If you really only want the users, you can of course delete everything from your phpBB 3 installation after the conversion completes.

Why not first install a fresh copy of phpBB 2, restore your user data into that, and then do a conversion to phpBB 3?

You will have to write your own import script then; phpBB3 offers an add_user function which should make that feat reasonably simple.

@Kellanved: Any reason why my suggestion wouldn't work?

Because of the (user-)groups table and other missing expected entries.

Ah, fair point, didn't think of that. Stubborn as I am, I would probably try anyway, but my hopes of it actually working have now decreased significantly...
