BBcode in PMs Causes and Error

Post by richard_ha »

when trying to send a PM with any BBCode in it this error pops up
Precondition Failed
The precondition on the request for the URL /phpBB3/ucp.php evaluated to false.

Apache/1.3.33 Server at http://www.moonrakers.34sp.com Port 80
It works fine without bbcode.

HTTP Error 412: Precondition Failed
412 errors in the HTTP cycle

Any client (e.g. your Web browser) goes through the following cycle:

* Obtain an IP address from the IP name of your site (your site URL without the leading 'http://'). This lookup (conversion of IP name to IP address) is provided by domain name servers (DNSs).
* Open an IP socket connection to that IP address.
* Write an HTTP data stream through that socket.
* Receive an HTTP data stream back from your Web server in response. This data stream contains status codes whose values are determined by the HTTP protocol. Parse this data stream for status codes and other useful information.

This error occurs in the final step above when the client receives an HTTP status code that it recognises as '412'.
That's a new one. It almost has to be an issue with your web host...but the funny thing is, you can still make normal posts with BBCode in them?

Yep, can still make posts with BB code in without problems, just in PMs

Agree that its a very bizarre one.

I've been looking for an excuse to put it to the other member to change to another hosting company anyway so this looks like a big swaying point!

I have this very same error. Using Quote and BBcode in PM's generates a "Precondition error". Normal posting are not affected by this.

I'm also on 34sp.com server and are using the final 3.0.0 forum with everything at default settings.

Any solution to this? If this is caused by the host provider, what is wrong and what do I tell them to do?

Need help here!!

That should certainly fix it - we run mod_security (wonderful module!) to stop lots of horrible scripts that are out there. Unfortunately sometimes other perfectly legitimate scripts get caught up in it. As per the linked post, we do offer a way to disable selected mod_security rules.

We also offer automated phpBB3 installation from http://script.34sp.com

Hi all!

Great, so there is a solution to this after all.. Please forgive me but I really don't know what a .htaccess is and I'm supposed to add "SecFilterRemove 34SPxxxxxxxx" into this "file"?

Is this a file on the ftp? Will take a look at this toonight and see what I can do.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Yes, thanks KRB99. I found that out too :)

To anyone else that need to do this. Find the error_log in the statistic folder in the root folder on the FTP. then add the line "SecFilterRemove 34SPxxxxxxxx" in the existing .htaccess file located in your froums root folder.

It works! Thanks again.
