How To: change Admin directory

Post by heronpub » Tue Aug 21, 2007 8:03 pm

I would like to change the /adm directory to something else and have been unable to figure out where PHP_ADMIN_PATH is defined (I think that's what I need to change). Any help would be appreciated.

Your board's URL: not yet on line
Version of phpBB3: RC4
Was this a fresh install or a(n) update/upgrade/conversion (please be specific)? Fresh install
Was this an install through your host? No
MODs you have installed: None

Additionally, you may wish to provide the following (where applicable)
Version of PHP used: 5.2.3
Database and version used: MySQL 5.0.37

Sure...just as a security precaution. Plus, the forum is going to be attached to a store and I'd like to keep the admin names consistent.

There is no security issue with the admin directory as to access any part of the admin area you need username and password. I suspect that changing the name of it will cause phpbb3 to break as this is the folder where it expects to find the admin files. I suppose you could search through all of the files and try and find the references to it and change them but I suspect that you will find problems when you try to update to a new version.

My advice would be "if it 'aint broke why fix it?"

Even so, I'd like to know where the directory is defined and how to control it.

I know that the link is in the "styles\style_version\template\overall_footer.html" file and the "\adm" directory is called by the U_ACP reference in the line: "<!-- IF U_ACP --><br /><strong><a href="{U_ACP}">{L_ACP}</a></strong><!-- ENDIF -->" but I don't know where U_ACP is defined/created and I still haven't figured out where the PHP_ADMIN_PATH is defined.

The path to the directory adm/is present in at least 10 files, it does not have a constant which defines it.

Exemple :

memberlist.php

Code: Select all

...
? append_sid("{$phpbb_root_path}adm/index.$phpEx", 'i=users&mode=overview&u
...
viewonline.php

Code: Select all

case 'adm/index':
adm/swatch.php

Code: Select all

 $template->set_custom_template($phpbb_root_path . 'adm/style', 'admin');
Use a text replacer to find all occurrences :)
