Your host hasn't set up MySQL right..this happened to me when converting big boards - the limit on query size needs to be increased if I remember correctly

thanks for the reply... ill talk to my host, see what he/she can do about setting up MySql better...

if not.... is it doable by hand? converting the database? for exsample backing up the old and the new and copy pasting it in or something??? just thinking outside the box... I can't imagine i'm the only one with this problem...

I just had the same error, and I fixed it by deleting the longest posts - in my case only one post which was 20kb. If you know any php at all it is easy to find the longest posts by using strlen(). If not you can, in phpmyadmin, export the posts table to a file and browse through it for long posts (this wasn't hard or time consuming, 5 minutes to look through 26k posts). Just remember to take note of the post_id for the posts so that you can insert them later.

Hope this helps someone,
Fro

The way I did it was by looking at how long the lines were in a text editor (Editpad let's you know how many characters are on the selected line). Find a line that is longer than the other, place the cursor at the end of that line then scroll up with the scroll bar. When a line goes outside of the viewable area you know you have a longer line and then you can place the cursor at the end of that line etc. It's not as cumbersome as it sounds.
