Can't seem to stay logged in

Post by Crunchie »

Hi there,
Hoping someone has an easy answer to this. I've just shifted a forum hosted on one hosting account to another and everything has been great barring one thing. Myself ad my users cannot stay logged in no matter what I set the "load settings" to and despite us ticking "sign me in automatically" button. Can anyone suggest what might be wrong? I've tried deleting the board cookies but still it happens. It never happened on the first host I had the forum on either.

Nope I've now tried deleting my own temporary internet files but this problem persists. My cookie path is just "/" I notice however that the cookie path is to ".onefinfalkirk.com" which is my old host (has that been restored along with the old database?).

Do you have any mods or just a clean install? RC4 or RC5?

I have no mods installed and am current using RC5. I noticed some of the server settings were from the old forum on the other host. I've changed the following...

Server URL settings - domain name, script path
Cookie settings - cookie domain.

I'm not sure if there's anything else I need to take into account? I'm at work at the moment and cannot check to see if this has worked.

Just do what Crunchie said:

Modify your Server Settings -> Domain Name to the current one.
Modify your Cookie Settings -> Cookie domain to the same as Domain name

Once done, "Delete all board cookies".

After that login to your site and check Log me automatically...

That worked for me.

Good Evening All.

I am running clean install of RC5 and I am encountering this same issue.

I have tried all of the suggestions on this thread and I still encounter times where I am asked to re-authenticate while working in my admin panel or am logged off my install for whatever reason.

Any other suggestions?

Are you testing in a another window - Logged in as admin and user in 2 diffeerent windows?

If so your user level will change

It's common that it happens when using de ACP, it's a security meassure. Just in case someone gains access to your computer and starts changing things in the forum, that's why you're asked to reenter password sometimes.

Excellent replies. I have tried the following the Crunchie provided, but still dealing with the same issue when I visiting another website, then coming back to mine and it has logged me out.

Any ideas on this issue?

Thanks again!

Thanks for the replies guys. So far I am staying logged in, but still running into the problem of being asked to re-authenticate myself a lot.

At one point this evening, I was in a loop which kept kicking me back to re-authenticate and I wouldn't even make it to the ACP before it asked me for my password again.

I understand the security issue, but it seems I am having an issue on top of that measure.

Surely, you've got Allow persistent logins: set to yes on your Security settings, that's a start.

Then in your load settings, make sure you've got Session length: set to 3600

Just to verify common things before thinking anything else.

http://www.domain.com

try

domain.com
