RC5 to Gold - New Install

Post by GarryWilmeth »

What is the best procedure for taking an RC5 site and moving the data to a clean install of GOLD?

Thanks,

Garry

It's very easy -- delete all phpBB3 files except for config.php, images/avatars, store/, and files/ directories. Upload a fresh set of phpBB3 Gold files (except for the files/directories above). Finally run install/update_database.php to update your database. You should now be good to go. :)

I'm sorry, I'm a noob, but does this go for an RC3 installation as well? (yes, I'm assuming it does, but I AM a noob ;) )
Thanks :)

Yep.

The important file is the config.php as that contains information about 'connecting' the forum files to the database. Everything else can be replaced by new files and then running the update file as Pentapenguin explains.

In the install guide when you do it again do you just put the name of the old mysql names in or should they auto be done cus i havent deleted the config file?

You must install phpBB3 first.
Then when you run the converter it's asking you for information about your 2x installation.
Most of that info is in the 2x config.php file.

You will probably get style errors.
You're probably best waiting until the style changes have been posted in the sticky at the top of

Sorry I just read one post further up. This is the problem with people hijacking other topics instead of making their own ;) You've lost me a bit because you say you just installed then you say you have RC3 then you talk about updating and converting.

If you've updated the style files to the current version, yes you should be ok.
