you can acces it using just the install folder here >> http://www.mydomain/phpBB3/install

then install phpBB3. After it is installed it will offer you a link to convert your old forum, click on that then follow the steps it says.

Yes you have to install phpBB3 first so you will need to make a database. The username/password you give it are what it will use. You will need to know what they are for the installation.

It's often down to one thing. It's not where you think it is. Remember that the folder names are CaSe sensitive and often belongs in the public_html folder on the server.

@ Kevin Clark
many thanks :)
one more question where do i find this infomation can i get this from my acp on my phpbb2

Database server hostname or DSN:
DSN stands for Data Source Name and is relevant only for ODBC installs.

i have found this SMTP Server Address = localhost

and i found port 80 can I use this port no here

Database server port:
Leave this blank unless you know the server operates on a non-standard port.

If you're on the same server, yes. It'll be in the phpBB2 config.php file. It's often just the word localhost.

You should really do the conversion first as you get the option to do that at the end of the install. If you remove the install folder and go ahead with MODs you'll have to upload it again and point your browser at it to get the conversion tab again. There's no guarantees the MODs you add will not interfere with the conversion.

I'd convert first and be sure it does what you want to do before you MOD it. Also the MODs need to be Gold compatible.
