Favicon doesn't work: why?

Post by Melegna »

Hello All,

I've put this command:

<link rel="icon" href="http://www.finanza.e-compa.com/favicon.gif" type="image/gif" />

after this one:

<title>{SITENAME} &bull; <!-- IF S_IN_MCP -->{L_MCP} &bull; <!-- ELSEIF S_IN_UCP -->{L_UCP} &bull; <!-- ENDIF -->{PAGE_TITLE}</title>

into overall_header.html

As you can see here http://www.finanza.e-compa.com it doesn't work.

Could you please help me!?

I can see 2 different icons (Well, same simbol, different colours.)
One on the main page of the website, one on the forum.

My browser is Firefox, in case you need that information.

Strange that with Firefox it works and with IE7 doesn't work (only on the subdomain)...

Anyone know why?

Try adding just favicon.ico into the subdomain folder like you did in your root folder - that's usually enough for me to make it work.

Already present favicon.ico in the subdomain folder :roll:

But you mean also to add any command ?

No, I never add any comands and it works for me simply by having favicon.ico in a folder of the subdomain.

I see you were adding a code to forum files, I never bothered with that.

Domain name: http://www.anavie.net
Subdomain with forum: http://sunrise.anavie.net (it's phpBB2 though)
Subdomain without forum: http://ivy.anavie.net

Unless specified most browsers will look in the domain root

http://www.yourdomain.com/favicon.ico

or

http://www.subdomain.yourdomain.com/favicon.ico

You only need to specify it if your using a file named other than favicon.ico . I'd I also imagine you could set up different icons for different pages on the same domain but I haven't tried it.

Make sure to clear your cache before checking it.

You might want to use this instead and dont forget to purge your case:

Code: Select all

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="./favicon.ico" />

For maximum compatibility across different browsers, I'd suggest you use this code in overall_header.html :

Code: Select all

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/vnd.microsoft.icon" />
<link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/vnd.microsoft.icon" />
Put your favicon.ico at the root so that http://www.finanza.e-compa.com/favicon.ico can be accessed.

Hope this helps...
