Need conversion help

Post by JEFFHUGHES » Thu Apr 03, 2008 3:54 am

Hi - I'm really at a loss with the conversion of my forums to the newest flavor of phpbb...

I keep running into issues of one kind or another...

I'm cool with paying one of you pros for some help. Please contact me for details.

Thanks in advance!

Cool! Thanks!

Really, I've gotten close to getting this conversion going, but I keep getting errors about missing files and such. Not sure running it locally is going to make it go - but I can give it a shot. Nothing else seems to be working for me at the present time.

=^)

The only real reason I'm wanting to upgrade is so that we can allow for a few moderators to post videos for "how to" type things.

Seemed like there was a hack for this in 2.x, but if my memory serves me well it was not a suggested implementation.

Thanks again for the tip!

I'll check into that.

Take care-

How did you go with the conversion??

Do you still have any more errors or problems to work through or to ask about??

Hi there-

I haven't tried that post above yet. Called it a night. Was running on only a couple hours of sleep.

I tried the conversion on the server and got a bunch of error messages.

Did you have other ideas, before I got to downloading and trying to set this all up locally?

Thanks a bunch!

Before you start messing with offline conversions, you should tell us what you have done so far with the conversion, and what errors you are getting.

Cool.. Okay, here it goes.

I've run into this same error three times now.
I deleted the db, re-imported from backup, and fired-up the forums to be sure they work.
All appears to be working fine. (had a host switch in there too - which I decided to tackle that issue first).

When I run the conversion tool, I get this error message (below):

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

What database type are you using as it seems like it is mysqli is that correct and is it supported by your current webhost if so?

Please explain..

Do you have phpBB2 and phpBB3 both working properly on the same website?
You have to have that before you run the conversion.
That error message implies that you do not have phpBB3 running properly because there is a parameter missing from the phpBB3 config.php

Okay... That would make sense.

No - I just opened up the phpbb 3 installer and went for the conversion first.

Let me try that...

Figured, with all I read about how easy this was, that I had to be doing something elementary that was wrong.
Installing now.

Thanks!

Okay... Just to confirm:

I did accomplish a clean install of the 3.0 version of phpBB.
I ran it with a different table prefix so we don't have overwrite issues... Figured that would be best (hope I was right).

I'll export the db as a back-up, back-up all files and then I go for the conversion, right?

Thanks!

Yes that's right.

The backup is mainly just in case you do something really wrong and then accidentally lose your data which shouldn't happen but is good to backup data just in case.

Okay - I thought things were going really well. Conversion threw a few errors, but mostly on not being able to copy the smilies. No sweat...

I then proceeded to login. When I did - the screen went blank, and now I can't get any of the new forums pages to show. I just get empty pages. No code whatsoever.

Any ideas...?

Thanks again, btw. I appreciate the help!

Do you have access to the server error log? This may be logging errors which will give a clue to the cause of the blank pages :)

Thanks! I'll check into the possible logs this morning.

Wondering though, after sleeping on this a bit. The earlier messages mentioned an "auth" file.
I authenticated (login) and then the screen went blank.

Code: Select all

[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/session.php on line 271: session::include_once(./../includes/auth/auth_.php) [function.session-include-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/session.php on line 271: session::include_once() [function.include]: Failed opening './../includes/auth/auth_.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php')
Return to index page
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]
Could the two be connected? I'm not sure what that missing file does...?

I have three files in that directory - auth_apache.php, auth_db.php and auth.ldap.php

Thanks in advance!
