How can I display the current phpbb version in footer?

Post by austin881 » Sun Apr 13, 2008 4:06 pm

This seems like such a simple thing to do I can't believe I'm posting this question. I've searched all over the web for an answer. I just want to display my current phpBB version in the footer of my site.

I've edited my overall_footer.html file and added:

Code: Select all

{CURRENT_VERSION}
I've also tried {VERSION}, {AUTO_VERSION}, etc., etc. with no success.

I've updated my forums to phpBB 3.0.1 and wish to proudly display it in my footer. Could someone please kindly point me in the right direction?

Back in the day when the version number was always displayed in phpbb footers I would edit mine out because I didn't think it was anybody's business. The less information you give the bad guys about the mechanics of your site the better, imo. As long as you have the phpbb copyright displayed, do you really need more?

Anyway you may want to take a look at how it is coded in acp_main. html and see if you can display the information outside of the acp.

Open includes/functions.php

Find:

Code: Select all

'SID'				=> $SID,
		'_SID'				=> $_SID,
		'SESSION_ID'		=> $user->session_id,
		'ROOT_PATH'			=> $phpbb_root_path,
After Add:

Code: Select all

'VERSION'           => $config['version'],
Open prosilver/template/overall_footer.html

Find:

Code: Select all

<div class="copyright">Powered by <a href="http://www.phpbb.com/">phpBB</a>
After Add:

Code: Select all

{VERSION}

Thank you tbtguide for the advice. I agree that the version is probably not anyone's business. However, the members I have right now are very leary of the forums security so I would like to at least assure them that the forums are using the latest version.

karlsemple, thank you. The modification you suggested worked perfectly.
