How does " View new posts" work?

Post by King-Nothing »

When I enter my forum I always use " View new posts" to get an overveiw of the forum. Lets say there are 5 topics that have new answers. I read all of them and they are now marked as read. But when I go to the indexpage there are serveral categories that has new answers that I haven`t read but they are not listed on the list of new posts. They have often been written at the same time (or close) as those listed when using " View new posts".

So how does this feature really work? Why are not all new posts listed?

"View new posts" shows the posts made since your last login.
If you log out and back in again, the list will be empty.

i understand how it works...with login and logout handling... my /our point is this...

it doesn't work right..
closing the browser does not expire the session..
if you logout and login it works yes but if you say

login, browse some topics, close the browser then login later and hit new posts it WILL show posts from earlier..

would really like a MOD's input on this behaviour!

I'm having the same issue and am starting to hear about it from quite a few members. Logging out works less than 10% of the time.

Does that mean that someone who has not logged in for a year gets a year's worth of new posts?

What is the 'new post" time frame and how can it be changed?
