how to extend search? (e.g. additional fields)

Post by combuster » Wed Sep 24, 2014 8:26 pm

For my RH Topic Tags-extension I would like to add a option in the search to search in the tags of topics.

Should I (a) add a field like "search for author" ("search for tag") or should I (b) take the search-key words and extend search to the tags?

I think (b) is more intuitive to understand for users just searching from the index page for example, while (a) is more precise. What do you think?

regarding (a): Which event is best suited for adding the matched topics to the result set?

reagarding (b): how can I extend the search form? I could not find any events?!

I haven't looked at your Topic Togs extension (yet!) but just going from its name I would expect it to work along the same lines as a "tag cloud" where you would normally just search on the tag content.

If there is no suitable event and you need one then you can create a PR (pull request) for one - although there is no guarantee that it will be approved.
