I need an Extension building for Dummies

I have taken a look at the tutorial for making Extensions does not work for me at all coming from modding PHPBB in the past extensions are all greek to me can someone make or start a tutorial for Dummies like give us complete Extension builds but with just very simple changes that one can grow with or is that to hard to do for us that want to learn how to work with Extensions

Like their is no extension with a nice menu like whats used on this site I have made a mod to do this its so dead simple with a mod but doing this in an extention I don't have a clue kind of why I am a bit miffed that they don't have a forum supporting mods for 3.2.x
