Group of authors and submission to the CDB.

Post by 3Di »

If a group of authors work together and want to submit their creations to the CDB, what should they do?

In the sense, as in our case, we are 2 authors who have a unique vendor name.
(we would evaluate requests for collaboration, feel free to PM me)

This vendor name is not registered here (phpBB Studio).

I will take this as an example: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... to_groups/

Thank you. :)

There is a precedent - phpbbmodders.net that is set up as a member but does not post, so I see no reason why you could not create a member phpbbstudio for the purpose

I'm aware of phpbbmodders.net, in fact.

The problem also arises in posting extensions in development in the appropriate forum.
If we were to post as phpBB Studio then there would not be enough permissions for each of us (separate) to edit the topic/post.
I don't think it's legal to use a single shared account otherwise.
Moreover, I don't think it's normally licit to have more than one account per user, at least fully functional.
I am a little perplexed, I would like to have a full official answer if possible.

Hi Marco,

First off you actually wouldn't be able to register that username as anything starting with "phpBB" is blocked during registration. Second we discussed this a bit and feel strongly that "phpBB Studios" looks too "official", which is one reason why we have that restriction on usernames (for several years now).

While we won't necessarily ban or frown upon your sharing of an account, this isn't really necessary when it comes to the CDB anyways since you can have co-authors which would be able to do pretty much most of the same things the main author can.

Hope that answers your question.

Hi David,
I would like to say that this discussion is my idea and that it has not been discussed internally in any way, it is like saying an approach to a potential problem in fact, as you can see and from my experience here.
It seems quite clear to me that we have been talking about usernames since then, and, aware of the limitation that has been in place for some time, I am certainly not going to oppose or discuss the subject further.
I think that the explanations concerning the CDB are quite exhaustive, moreover.

I would like to deepen instead the concept "vendor name" that in our case is "phpbbstudio", we also have a shared domain called "phpbbstudio.com".
Are there any problems in submitting extensions to the CDB with this vendor name? I hope not, I personally find it rather uncomfortable having to change our structures.

Thx.

If you are talking just about the vendor name, the extension policy is pretty clear: https://www.phpbb.com/extensions/rules- ... -prefixing
It also nowhere states you are required to use your username as vendorname.

Exactly
Vendor Prefixing
All php events, services, routes and new template events in an extension should be prefixed with the extension's vendor name and package name, and contain only lowercase letters, numbers, dots, and underscores. #
  • PHP Events: vendor.extension.custom_event
  • Services: vendor.extension.custom.service
  • Routes: vendor_extension_custom_route
  • Template Events: <!-- EVENT vendor_extension_custom_event -->
Note: It is forbidden to use phpbb or core to prefix events, services and routes.
The vendor name is phpbbstudio (here is the prefix).

Therefore is NOT phpbb nor core.

Example:

Code: Select all

dtst_controller:
    path: /dtst
    defaults: { _controller: phpbbstudio.dtst.event.controller:handle }
So, taking an example of

Code: Select all

namespace phpbbmodders\adduser\migrations\v100;
It seems to me I can use phpbbstudio, am I correct?
