Edit styles ?

Post by FrolicFrog » Sat Nov 01, 2014 8:56 pm

In the ACP, I am missing the EDIT button for "prosilver", to edit files like "overall-header.html" etc. .
Where do I edit these files in 3.1 ?
Thx

The ability to edit styles in the ACP was removed from version 3.1.0. You would have to download the file, edit it and upload it via FTP and then purge the cache in ACP, General tab.

How? You're not supposed to edit styles via the ACP anyways...

The problem with the ACP styles editor was that every time the cache was purged, the edits were lost. That was inconvenient.

The above is true. It was a pain; it's good they removed it. You could download NotePad++ and do the editing of any file you want from that program.

It's quicker to create styles while doing it through the ACP and not having to refresh everything for every minor change you make. But then of course you should correctly load those files so you don't get those errors, but that's not really an option anymore.

There was before, and still is, a recompile stale style components option in load settings that means refreshing isn't required. Good for development, but it adds additional load to the board so not good as a long term setting.

Where do you edit the CSS for the theme?

Edit: looks like you have to download about 10 css files an edit them individually.

Yuck. That's a big step backwards from the 3.0.x system

It effectively makes easy modification of the colour scheme impossible. Holy Jeebus!

you must have missed the part where it said that in 3.0 those changes made from the admin panel were not permanent. the editor was only there for testing and for people on free hosts who did not have access to the ftp.

if for any reason the cache was purged , any changes made from that editor would disappear.

it caused so many problems for people that it was removed in the current version.

Hi Lumpy. No, in 3.0 you could edit the styles, then copy and save them in a text file on your pc. When/if they were reset, it was a simple procedure to insert them again from the saved location.

But no worries, I've found that I can achieve most of what I need in 3.1.1 by editing colors.css and likewise, I'll keep of copy of that in safekeeping.

Thanks for replying! :)

It's better the way it is in 3.1, meaning you won't have to hit the purge cache all the time to get the style right. I'm actually happy it's removed from 3.1. :)
