When did your problem begin? February 1st
Please describe your problem. The problem is that, as an admin, new user registration emails are no longer sent to my email account. The last registration email received was January 31st. After that nothing has been sent to any of the admin accounts. Yesterday I finally had time to update the board from 3.0.X to the current release 3.1.2. After updating I spent approximately 5 hours troubleshooting the problem to no avail. I have searched through the phpbb support forums and have found a couple different things I have tried but none of them have worked, so I'm posting to see if anyone can offer any help.

I know in the new version the email notification has to be checked on in the user profile settings (in the old version it was on by default). I have turned this on and created a new test account using an alternate email. The test account receives an email, but the admin email account does not (it does get a notification on the forum account). This leads me to believe that the smtp relay (through godaddy) is working fine and that the problem is some other option in the admin control panel that is unchecked (especially since it was working with the same settings before). Also, there are no errors in the error log while using the current smtp setup.

If any more information is needed let me know. Any assistance at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My sister has a board hosted by godaddy and we had to mess with a few things in order to get the email to send both admin and new member emails. One of the things we did was create a webmaster email account at our domain. Using hotmail or gmail doesn't seem to work well for the contact address.

We also are not using the SMTP settings. Here is a pic of the settings as we have them.

Yeah, I have a webmaster account. I've tried using different accounts and I just tried turning SMTP off. The registering user still gets an email as usual but the admins do not. :(

Only thing I can think of at the moment is to inquire what your Account activation setting is.

ACP / general tab / User registration settings. Is it by admin or by user?

It's set to by admin as it should be. Board wide emails setting is on as well. This is why I'm really confused. I have no idea what else to do.

Just to state the obvious did you check the spam folder of your admin acct? :)

EDIT: after the edits you've made did you purge the boards cache?

Are you able to receive other mail at the acct your using for the admin? Like the contact us form?

in your user control panel, did you set your notification preferences to yes for email for the right things?

Yes I've checked my spam folder, nothing there. I've even tried using the search bar to find new emails, still nothing. I only purged my cache once during the troubleshooting. So now I just purged it again with a couple other settings previously mentioned, still nothing. I had not tried receiving other email notifications, so I did just try a PM and a contact us notification. I got a PM notification on the board but still no email from either. :?

Yes, that was the new setting in the updated PHPBB3 forum software that I, originally, did not have checked. However, even after turning on the board notification AND email notification I still get nothing. Therein lies my problem. :(

Do you have access to the error logs for php and apache? If so, look and see if there are errors related to email. If not, ask your host to look and share any they find with you and post them here.

The only error that I have gotten is an SMTP error when I tried the other Godaddy SMTP relay address (which I've never actually gotten to work). I'll contact Godaddy tomorrow and see if they see anything. Thank you guys for the responses!

hi again.

so i started a ticket with my host and this is what they say:
I've tried several new user registrations while following various logs on the server, and there are no errors being presented. I notice that the activation e-mail to the admin account isn't being sent at all, and the process doesn't appear to be producing any errors at all. I see the e-mails being delivered to the user's e-mail, but there is no evidence that the forum script is attempting to send the admin account any e-mail during the user registration process. Could you please reach our to the community/maintainers of the forum script in particular, and provide them with these insights to see if they have any further suggestions at all?
any suggestions on what to try next?

using your hosting account control panel, create a new email account on your domain.

use that email account for the board.
setup your email program to check that account or set it to forward to your gmail account or whatever.

see if it goes through that way.
