What risks run using nulled styles?

Post by wen33 » Wed Aug 19, 2015 2:01 am

On the internet there are many sites that offer free phpBB styles when they are actually paid. There are risks in using these pirates styles?

What is a "nulled" style?

Any style that has not been validated by the phpBB team potentially runs a risk of any number of problems, but having said that there are some very good and reliable paid for styles out there - whether you should pay for a style is another debate.

Just because a style is paid for does not necessarily mean that it is "pirated"

The person providing the styles/themes could have hidden scripts in them, they could be redirect traffic, having hidden ads for their own means, etc.

The biggest one would just be that they are not secure at all, but that's something that would come at the cost of using a style that is not validated by the phpBB team.

Or that it even works!
