How to manage Language Packs in phpbb 3.1.5?

Post by scorpiors » Wed Aug 19, 2015 8:00 am

I want to install 3-4 language packs in my board? How to install language packs in phpbb 3.1.5? How user can switch from one language to another? Suppose the default language is English. Suppose a French user visits on board how will he/she switch to French.

Upload the language folder, eg /fr, to /language
Then you can install it under the customise tab.

Users can choose their language in the user control panel and there will be an option on the registration page too.

Note, this only changes the language of the default site text (like buttons and menus), it doesn't translate what people have written in to another language. That is a common misconception.

In standard phpBB - no.

To do that you would need either some translation service or an extension

.... and that can easily end up with gibberish being written, or you could edit or remove a post based on the edited version having been translated incorrectly.

In general, people tend to stick to boards in their native language or one they are at least semi-fluent in.
