Hide member usernames from guests, on guest=readonly forum

Post by petsits » Wed Jan 13, 2016 8:33 am

One of my forums is readable by guests, but only members can post to it. How can I hide all member information (including usernames) from guests? Thanks!!!

This my extension, does what you ask. I can modify it to exclude even the username.

here is an example of view for guest. What would you like to eliminate further? http://www.phpbb-store.it/viewtopic.php?t=2912

On second thought, playing around with it (adding username to the css), I'm not sure if this method is going to work because while the stylesheet hides the data from plain sight, it's still in the source code? I need the username to not be available at all. Also getting rid of the commas between the usernames would be nice when the usernames are hidden.

Hi Alex -- I could be interesting in hiding the usernames also. Sounds like a good idea.

Ciao!

I ended up editing a lot of the code (mostly adding "if logged in" controls to the template .html pages). Not ideal, but it works. There are so many pages that show the usernames that I'm not sure it was worth it.

Use the event core.modify_username_string to remove the users name from displaying.

See attached, I was bored. Extract into the ext directory of your forum and click on hide username to enable the extension.

/ext/[the files]

or

/ext/hideusername/[the files]

I am running 3.1.7-pl1 and I tried both and in neither case did the ext appear in ext manager

Might there be a way to do something similar with the signature also?
