Moving posts

Post by ingeva »

I have tried to move a selected number of posts from one topic to another.
From time to time someone posts in the wrong forum, or under the wrong topic, but I have found no way to fix it. I'm running 3.1.8.
I go to the MCP, select the post to be moved, and after I click "Send" (This is the Norwegian version, I guess it's "Go" in English) I select forum and topic. I'm asked if it's OK to move, and I click "Send". Nothing is moved.

This used to be quite easy. I'm surprised that it should be harder now.

Or is this a bug?

I am not sure what you are doing here....

It should be
Click "Move posts"
Select destination topic
Select posts to move
Click Submit.

I am not sure what that extra "Send" in the middle is for. Also, you should be selecting the posts to be moved after you select the destination topic.

I guess "Send" is the same as "Submit". There's no option to select destination until I've clicked "Send/Submit" the first time.

That cannot possibly be true.
I have tried it both from here in Viewtopic and from the MCP in Viewtopic mode.
As soon as I select "Move Posts" from the dropdown, I get a page with the Destination Topic selecter/link at the top.

The problem was that I selected the posts to move before I was asked for the destination. I had to select the "Alternatives" tab first ("Destination Topic selecter"), in order to do so. THEN I could execute the move.
This procedure was not very clear because of the text "Alternatives" in the Norwegian translation, but I've got it now. It was confusing to be told that the move is executed, when it was not.
Also I think that asking for a number for the destination is a bit strange. Who knows that? :)

Anyway, Thanks for helping!

I am not sure what you are looking at. There is no "Alternatives" tab in English. In English there is a "Move Posts" tab which asks for the Destination topic. it is easier to use the Quick Mod tools at the bottom of Viewtopic than clicking the MCP link though.

I tried to indicate the "Alternatives" in the Norwegian translation must be the same as "Destination Topic selector".

I can't find any Quick Mod tool. Where is that?

Oh, thanks! I've never noticed that menu before. Silly placement, imho. :)
