Notifications growing at an infinite rate

We are using v3.1.8
Members personal "Notification" lists cannot be cleared nor archived.
Even when marked as "Read", Notifications are growing at an infinite rate

In a 2014 thread How-to remove read notifications ?

Read notifications are automatically deleted after a certain period (default is 30 days),
defined in the ACP => Load settings - Read Notification Expiration.

Eighteen months later , does this still apply ?
Is their any way members can delete (or archive) their (personal) read notifications ?

In the same thread

"Unread posts" (option) from inside a members Notifications within CP represents all unread notifications for the entire forum, not just the members personal notifications.
When unreads come in at the rate of several hundred in a 24 hour period it is very inconvenient to have to scan a list for "unread" items

Are there any other tweaks we can use apart from ...
ACP => Load settings - Read Notification Expiration < x days >

I believe there currently is no possibility to delete read notifications.
The "Read Notification Expiration" option is still there, and works.

I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve here. The notification system is designed just for what the name says. Notify you of the fact that something has happened. If you want to see everything that's changed since you last visited, there are the "View new posts" and "View unread posts" options. If there are specific topics you want to follow, there is the Bookmarks option in the UCP for that.
