Friendly URLs

Post by php_mike » Fri Jun 17, 2016 8:46 pm

Please don't reply if all you want to do is argue about why someone would want that :).
I've read plenty of posts where people are arguing. I would simply prefer URLs which contain the text just like wordpress and others do.

Anyhow, as mentioned, I've been reading for an hour or two and cannot seem to find an answer on this.
To confirm, what I would like to do is go from

http://forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2
to
http://forums.com/this-is-the-topic-name

Maybe I'm not using the right terminology but I think it's called friendly URL's.

I'm also reading conflicting things where some are talking about needing an extension and one or two people seem to say that this is now part of the 3.1.x version. I'm not sure so need to ask.

Thanks.

It's not part of the 3.1 line so you really do need an extension, I'm afraid.
There also isn't one available in our Customisation Database at this moment.

You could keep an eye at this, which is still in development: viewtopic.php?f=456&t=2288486
It does still seem quite buggy though, and is definitely not recommended to run on a live board.

Thank you for putting this at rest for me! It simply wasn't clear what the current state is.
I would love to see this implemented and will keep my eyes open.

Thanks again.

Far from it.

You might have a person grievance about what you think are unfriendly URLs but bumping a 2 year old topic to say that doesn't really help much.

Copious amounts of discussion on it in other topics and over on Area51. No need to do it all yet again on here.
