Things just aren't lining up

Post by Trekky » Thu Jul 14, 2016 6:31 pm

Hi everyone,

Sorry another day, another load of questions.

I am pleased to say I have successfully got the main forum converted and working (although still down during maintenance)

I have tried re adding my custom made webpages to see if they worked with the new look forum however things just aren't lining up...
Capture1.PNG

I have tried playing the code to the best of my understanding in both the html file and php file for that page but I really only do know basic html commands so can't figure out what I need to get it all lined up.

To try and overcome this I have tried using the Pages Ext. but I just can't get the look I am wanting through that regards the layout (which is a shame as if I could use Pages then I have discovered I overcome my buttons issue).

With Pages I am getting the layout right but just can't get the page itself to look how I want it to.

If anyone is able to help with advice in correcting this I would be truly grateful, in the meantime I am back off to w3 school

your custom pages that worked in your 3.0 board should work exactly the same in your 3.1 board.

I can't check because you have the board turned off currently. however, I can see you have the prosilver/template/home_body.html file and it looks fine except that you do not have the INCLUDE overall_footer.html command in the code for it.

turn the board back on,
put your home.php file in the root of your new 3.1 board.

then go here:
http://www.ukpouchies.co.uk/forum/home.php

it should work.
wait, I see that you have custom css for that page as well. you will have to make sure that the css file for it is in your new 3.1 prosilver/theme/ folder for it to work.

Hi Robert
Thanks for this feedback
I have reactivated the forum and uploaded the original website pages to the forum but still having the same issue.
Not sure what custom css file you spotted although it might of been code I didn't know was there as I was copying and pasting different code from different page php files to see if the code they used might help.

The php code for the page is:

Code: Select all

<?php
define('IN_PHPBB', true);
$phpbb_root_path = (defined('PHPBB_ROOT_PATH')) ? PHPBB_ROOT_PATH : './';
$phpEx = substr(strrchr(__FILE__, '.'), 1);
include($phpbb_root_path . 'common.' . $phpEx);

// Start session management
$user->session_begin();
$auth->acl($user->data);
$user->setup();

page_header('Home');

$template->set_filenames(array(
    'body' => 'home_body.html',
));

make_jumpbox(append_sid("{$phpbb_root_path}viewforum.$phpEx"));
page_footer();
?>
and for the html file:

Code: Select all

<!-- INCLUDE overall_header.html -->

<ul class="linklist rightside">
		<li><!-- IF S_USER_LOGGED_IN -->{LAST_VISIT_DATE} | {CURRENT_TIME}<!-- ELSE -->{CURRENT_TIME}<!-- ENDIF --></li>

is that the page you are creating using the pages extension?

that is not what was in home_body.html a few minutes ago.
also, that is combining with the portal body page for some reason.

ok, in home_body.html put this at the bottom of the file:

<!-- INCLUDE overall_footer.html -->

see what happens

ok, I copied your files and installed them here on my test board:

http://phpbbusers.com/3.1/home.php

I would suggest you remove this from the html file:
<ul class="linklist rightside">
<li><!-- IF S_USER_LOGGED_IN -->{LAST_VISIT_DATE} | {CURRENT_TIME}<!-- ELSE -->{CURRENT_TIME}<!-- ENDIF --></li>
</ul>

or just add a couple of line breaks after it: <br /><br />
all I did was copy the files and add the overall_footer link to the html file as it should be.
oh, I do not have the portal installed.

Ha ha ha! Robert if I could show you now my happy dance! Thank you, Thank you.
Its working and with the portal still activated :D

Can I ask one quick thing after seeing your test forum... How did you get your menu bar across the top?

ok, if you want it to look like this:
http://phpbbusers.com/3.1/
here is what I did.
I created a new style, named it promenu. it is just prosilver with the menu added.

you can download it, install it and use it as the only style. it should work with the portal extension as well.

http://phpbbusers.com/support/31_styles/promenu.zip

the reason for creating a custom style is that way when it is time to update 3.1 you can simply do the file replacement method and then update the promenu style manually and you will be done.

let me know if it gives you any problems.
notice that it is responsive. when the device gets smaller, the menu goes away and the hamburger appears for you to click on/tap on etc.

Oops spoke too soon... Have edited the menu.html to add my pages and it would seem they have gone out of line.
Capture3.PNG
Not a major issue, I am sure there is just a bit of adjustment I need to do in one of the files, other than that it all seems to be working fine :)
I have removed the last 2 links for the time being
