RESOLVED: No Topic Or PM Email Notifications

Post by ClassicMan »

Hello,

I'm not receiving email notifications for new topics/posts and PMs. I have phpBB3.1.10 and have checked the following:

1. My email box: This is confirmed as receiving and sending emails perfectly. I've sent and received test emails directly from the account and have received loads of emails without any problems.

2. Forum Subscriptions: I'm subscribed to all forums. The litle box at the bottom of each forum has a cross with "unsubscribe forum" next to it.

3. ACP Client Communication Email Settings: Enabled. Please see screenshot below.

4. UCP Notification Options: All options for both Email and Notifications selected. Board notifications work but not email. Please see screenshot below.

I do hope someone can help as I really need these email notifications.

Thanks.

Just a wild guess here, but the emails could be held up in the mail queue cron from phpBB before getting send causing some delay. Try setting the e-mail package size to 0. :)

Hello Jim,

Thanks for your reply and the suggestion. I tried setting the package to 0 but still no luck with the PM email.

I wish I knew what's causing this; it must work for other people.

The important part is the bottom of the page. That is where your outgoing email settings are defined.

Hello Brf,

I did try that without any success but I'll try again.

I completed the bottom part of the page with the email information I have direct from my host. Then, when I send,I get the window with a message saying the email has been sent but receive no emails at all.

As I mentioned previously I know for a fact my email box is working fine .. and to be certain I checked again with a few test emails in Thunderbird and they arrived almost instantly.

This has nothing to do with your "Email box" or with Thunderbird.
The important thing is to get that "bottom" information correct so phpBB can send the message.

I understand this entirely. Having eliminated that possibility and knowing there is nothing wrong with my email box then I can concentrate on the board knowing the issue is definitely there somewhere. Process of elimination.

Well, I have obtained the full smtp information from my host and entered this which was checked by two other people here.

Again, and using the process of elimination, I entered the into a third party email client and was able to send and receive perfectly immediately. This confirms the information I have from my host is correct and works.

I really don't know what else to try in that bottom section.

Most of the time the e-mail is working when you set the "SMTP setting" => " Use SMTP server for email:" to "no".
Did you try that?

Who is your host?
Sorry! My English is bat ;) !!!

Hello Janus,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes .. I have tried that too so the board manages emails with no info in the bottom part. Still the same result .. no email notifications at all.

My host is 'Bestwebhosting UK'.

Hello,

I've found what the problem was and have resolved it.

I had tried using a .uk domain for my email address and this is the problem. After much trial and error, I enentually entered a gmail account and everything flew .. notifications from everywhere .. new registrations, topics, posts and Pms.

This has been confirmed by my host where this problem is know to them.

Just thought I'd let everyone know the outcome.

Thanks again for all your help.
