Full Reinstall ~ Keep Members Login Info.

Post by ClassicMan »

Hello,

Before starting a full, fresh reinstall of my board, is there a way in which I can save then reinstate members login info including username, password, email address, original registration date ect so I don't have to ask them all to re-register again.

I do mean with a new, clean, fresh database .. a previous database was corrupt so backups are no good.

Thanks.

those things are all in the database so if the old one is no good then you are out of luck.

please explain what the problem with the old database it. it is rare for a database to be so bad that you can't fix it.

Hello Robert,

The original problem was that no one could post or send PMs. It kept taking us back to the login page. We did try a few things with the help of these forums, including the cookie settings, but had to give up.

I have now rebuilt the forums but was hoping to save having to ask remaining members to re-register. Apart from not sending any email notification for anything at all, the new forums are now all working well. I have raised this in a new thread.

Thanks again.

If you're asking can just the user info be re-instated to a fresh install the answer would be no, not easily. The problem is all the good stuff is in the database, if that is beyond repair your board is gone. But, as Robert said, it's not very often a database can't be fixed. It would be far better to fix the original issue which probably isn't a database problem anyway.
