Too many connections error.

Post by trandoductin »

I have contacted my hosting service.
And they asked if i have mods, and i have many.
They suggested i turn them all off and turn them on in order of importance.
But the too many connections error happens intermittently so i doubt i'll be able to track which mod is causing it if any.
My question is out of the mods we have on here, is there a list of mods that are known to cause connection error because it's not closing connections properly?

If they're released extensions (not MODs) then they should all function correctly.

They have a valid point about deciding which ones are important though. You might be using a lot of resources unnecessarily. Look at the list you have and see how many of them actually make a difference to you and your users.

You could upgrade to another more powerfull product from your host or change host. Even go from shared hosting to a vps.

I thought mods and extensions meant the same thing. If they don't then I think I only have extensions (not Mods).
sounds like i might have to upgrade from shared hosting.
Thanks guys.

MODs involve edits to core files. Extensions are free-standing. Not the same.

there are 2 layers - shared hosting server, or vps server - you have your own vitrual server then separately

there is also shared database or vps database

in my case I found the shared database was hopeless, I went to the vps database pretty fast but then found that page execution was slow at time of very heavy traffic

I complained to the hosts who pointed out that my site's traffic was huge, it was just a time that coincided with certain sensational incidents in the news, that caused my site to suddenly increase traffic many times over, the hosts pointed out that my site was trying to hog resources at the cost of other sites in the shared server, automatic processes stop your site from hogging resources, effectively your site is denied the server for x seconds OR you pay the $ for VPS - dedicated server. thankfully the huge traffic passed after a few days, back to normal

trying to contact my host to upgrade to business pro plan (supposed to be 3 times as fast).
Still shared hosting though but hopefully 3times as fast should rid me of this error
VPS is too expensive for me.
