Stop extra forum alerts for private messages?

Post by Dragonwolf » Sun Apr 16, 2017 12:46 pm

Hey there, can anyone tell me if there is a way to stop Phpbb from giving double alerts? Basically:
why.jpg
why.jpg (2.88 KiB) Viewed 372 times
That's three private messages, and three notifications about private messages. I like the notification system, and I like the message alert system, in general. But do I really need an alert from both systems for every single private message?

I have no idea why Phpbb does stuff like this, lol. I think it's a bit silly. 8-)

So uncheck the box "Someone sends you a private message " for notifications in your UCP.

Oh, okay! Is there any way to do it board-wide?

Post an Announcement telling the users how to do this if they want to.

notice how he said "if they want to"?
this is something that is probably best left to the user to decide how they want it to work.

that is why phpbb has made all those options available. it gives the users much more control over what they choose to see etc.

Can you give me a reason why they would want this, because it feels like a deliberate bug.

A "bug" is something that doesn't work the way it is designed to, this is a feature and not a bug.

Not sure anyone can answer your question because I don't know how you would want to be notified and you don't know how I would want to be notified.

remember, just because you don't like something has nothing to do with what others like or don't like.
phpbb is designed to give members as much choice in how the board operates as possible.

you might be surprised to find out what your members actually think about it.

I really don't get why this exists though. These two icons are literally directly next to each other. It doesn't make sense to have two notifications for one thing any more than it does for me to post the same thing twice for every reply. You see what I mean? :P

I notice someone deleted my jokey double post, which means that at least one person on here understands why being told the same thing twice is annoying. :D

If you believe you have found a bug, then your best bet is to post it in the tracker.
