Couple of Newbie Questions

Post by SickSquirrel »

Installed 3.1.1 last night. My host has one-click installs of the older version. Once set up, I'll upgrade.

I'm a Windows gal but on the iPad right now. Downloaded three themes but where are they? I need to FTP to my site.

I set up three forums but only two show. The missing forum has three sub-forums. Why are they hiding? Unlocked, too.

Lastly, I used to have a board beginning in 1994. Eventually I added something that allowed new users to post but I had to approve ten first. Was that a mod/hack? If so, which one? (I have amnesia dice 2008 so no memory of Phpbb settings and hacks

Thank you

IPad downloads location :
most probably you have downloaded zip files of the themes.
does your IPad has application for managing zip files ?
if so look into that zip application folder. there you should be having the themes compressed files.

if not there then look into your web browser's folder / its downloads folder.
your web browser might also have a shortcut key to find downloaded files.
________________________________________________________________________
forum not appearing :
forum permissions should be checked for all user groups. see phpBB3 Permissions guidance
________________________________________________________________________
approval of initial X posts setting :
login to your board admin panel , look at left side column menu ,
navigate to User registration settings page by clicking its link
if New member post limit field exists then check its value ; that should work.
________________________________________________________________________
* after changing anything at board admin panel, you may have to purge the board cache ,
through its available button at home page of board admin panel (General tab page)

Thank you.

There isn't a new user post limit line in User Registration Settings

There is no zip folder and downloads should go to Downloads. Mine don't so I'm wondering where else they are.

Permissions are the same as the other.

** After typing that, I checked permissions. I set the forum and sub-forums to copy another. Viola! Thank you, that worked.

So just two issues left.

That's been a standard option for a very long time.

You're much better off doing uploads on a computer than an iPad.

I prefer Windows but using it at night or early morning isn't an option.

The admin panel may have that option "for a very long time" but it's not in 3.1. My host offers that for auto install only. I emailed, suggesting they upgrade, but no response. I can't upload a current version until this is set up. I guess until then I'll not be able to set it.

Thank you.

We don't fully support host installs as they don't use our files. Are you sure of the board version? Can you post a link to the site? It's been standard since 3.0.6 I think.

Not your files? It looks identical to the sample on this site. Is my host using hacked software?

I can PM you the URL if that's okay. I'd rather not post it publicly.

Thank you. Back this afternoon.

PM is fine.

Hosts change our files for their own needs to make the auto installers work and also change settings and options to make it easier to use the installer. We don't know what those changes are so when unusual things that work by default suddenly don't work we can't always help to fix it because we don't know the cause.
