3.0.14 and looking for advice

Post by Real_Bill_Thompson » Sun Sep 10, 2017 3:24 am

Hello forum.

I am using version 3.0.14 and I am looking for advice. What should I update to? Also, I was trying to make use of a paid subscription MOD that never really worked out well, and was always in the development state anyway and never graduated to a full use status. I want to undo that MOD as well. Please advise.

Hi, welcome to phpBB.com! :)

I'd recommend that you update to our latest version, which is phpBB 3.2.1. Be aware though that this is a large update so you'll lose all of your current MODs and styles.

For clear instructions, see the guide in our documentation: Upgrading from 3.0 to 3.2

I followed the instructions precisely and with complete granularity and detail and I am happy to now report that the update to 3.2 happened without a hitch and I am able to log on and see my website complete with all the user additions in the 3.2 style.

Ah but here is the problem. I want to change the style. So I picked a 3.2 style I prefer, "Allan Style - SUBSILVER" I unzipped it and put the directory into the "styles" folder. In admin mode, when I try to change it only says "prosilver" in the drop down menu.

Please advise.

Are you absolutely sure you got the 3.2 version? Look at the style.cfg file that comes with it.

Also check the folder hierarchy is exactly the same as the prosilver one. It's easy to have everything one folder too deep.

If you think that's correct, post a screenshot of your FTP showing where you have it.

Update. I went back and made sure the only two styles are the prosilver and the one I want. This, plus, the "All" directory is all that is under styles. Just to make sure, I deleted the all folder and the prosilver folder and ftp's the latest version from the zip file. But I am still not able to switch out of prosilver to another style.

here is the style.cfg in the prosilver directory under styles

Did you go to the "CUSTOMIZE" table and install the new stile?

Well, isn't this embarrassing.

It is working now. I will have to make some customization by hand. Can you suggest any useful MODS to add on now?

There are no mods in 3.2, extensions are used. You should have a search of the extensions forums to see if there’s anything that suits you.
