Do you have any extensions installed? Yes
What extensions do you have installed? Ban Hammer, Stop Forum Spam, Akismet
What styles do you currently have installed? Black
What language(s) is your board currently using? English
Which database type/version are you using? Prefer not to answer for security reasons
What is your level of experience? Been using phpbb for several years now
What username can be used to view this issue? No answer given
What password can be used to view this issue? No answer given
What actions did you take (updating your board; installing a MOD, style or extension; etc.) prior to this problem becoming noticeable? Updated to 3.1.11 & Stop Forum Spam and Ban Hammer
Please describe your problem: Everything was working properly before the update. Now now new user activation emails are being sent.

From where did you update?

Are the other mails working?

I updated using the package from phpbb.com: https://www.phpbb.com/downloads/3.1/

It's no longer sending via stmp, but I was able to send an email to another user without any problems, which tells me "Users send email via board:" is still working properly. It's just the STMP situation (e.g. the activation and the "topic response" emails) that's causing an issue.

Check your STMP settings in that case.

What security reasons? Presumably you’re running a bulletin board on the internet? That being the case you’re findable otherwise what’s the point of running a bulletin board unless it’s behind closed doors? The information above is important in helping you to find your problem otherwise we wouldn’t ask.

If normal (none SMTP) mail is being sent and SMTP not I would suggest that you’re SMTP settings are wrong. Can you check the credentials you require for your SMTP account are correct and also post a screen cap of your ‘normal’ and SMTP settings please? Have a look in the server and you’re boards logs to see if there’s anything pertaining to mail and post any results.

BOARD SETTINGS

NOTE: Wherever I have [Company email] it's the email address for the forum and we use gmail but it does not end in @gmail.com.

Email Settings
General
Enable board-wide emails: Enabled
Users send email via board: Enabled
Email function name: Mail
Email package size: 20
Contact email address: [Company email]
Contact name: Forum Administrator
Return email address: [Company email]
Email signature: Thanks, The Management
Hide email addresses: Yes

STMP Settings
Use SMTP server for email: No (currently, but previously it was "Yes")
SMTP server address: ssl://smtp.gmail.com (originally it was tls://stmp.gmail.com. I switched it to ssl when I was trying to get it to work again but neither did.)
SMTP server port: 465
Authentication method for SMTP: LOGIN
SMTP username: [Company email]
SMTP password: [Company email password]
Verify SSL certificate: Yes
Verify SMTP peer name: Yes
Allow self-signed SSL certificates: No


GMAIL SETTINGS
POP Download: Status: POP is enabled for all mail
IMAP Access: Status: IMAP is enabled
