blueline forum - death of owner/administrator

Post by allenitz » Sun Jan 07, 2018 10:47 pm

owner and administrator on the blueline forum has died leaving no instructions for continuation of the forum. i am the last surviving director on the forum and need to get administator functions so that the forum can be continued. how can i get those capabilities, particularly the authority to induct news members.

the forum annual fee has been paid with time (unknown duration) remaining unknown.

i would also like to know when previous payment will expire and how i could renew at the time of expiration.

Do you have the host information? Do you have access to the ACP's Backup function (ACP, Maintenance tab, Backup)? Do you have access to the host's cPanel?

in addition to what steve posted. nobody here at phpbb.com has any idea about paying for the hosting account. ( phpbb is free so you are not paying for it ) if you give us a link to your board we can maybe help you get in touch with the people you need to talk to to get proper access etc.

Based on the topic tile I am guessing that you are referring to the site at blueline.ca. If that is correct then the domain name appears to be registered until 16th March 2023 with Tucows.com Co.

Finding the host is a bit more complicated as the site is using Cloudflare which is hiding the true host (another good reason to not use Cloudflare in my opinion) but appears to being hosted by Peer 1 Network (USA) Inc. but it is impossible to know how long the hosting account has been paid for. You will probably have great difficulty trying to get access to the account without some legal paperwork, and you will probably have problems transferring ownership of the domain name (but you have plenty of time to resolve that)

Depending on the answers to my questions, this could be quite easy, or impossibly difficult.

If you're lucky, gain access to that person's computer and try using the browser. You might get clues from bookmarks, sites visited, and the browser might even remember login information to such sites.

Gaining even some passwords, or bookmarks for that matter could be extremely valuable.

Is it possible to gain access to that person's email account also? That could have many more clues also.

If that person didn't live near you, maybe it would be possible to get ahold of someone that that person lived with even? Anything is better than nothing.

thanks all for all the input.

from what i read it seems unlikely that i'll be able to change the forum.

however, it seems it might be simpler if i could just re-subscribe to the forum under my own name. how might it do that if it is possible. and about payment - HA always talked about an annual payment. is there anyone else who might have a hand in the forum, a hand requiring payment.

the forum url is http://blueline.goobertree.com - the deceased owner called himself HA or H. Arlequin in all contacts with the forum. i don' know his real name.

i appreciate all help. as is obvious, i don't know what the hell i'm doing.

Your guess is as good as ours. You would need to find out who it's hosted with. You just happen to be using the software from this site but that's where our involvement ends. We don't host it and we don't take any payments for it. Your host does.

You can't access the admin section of it in any way without knowing who it's hosted with and contacting them for advice.

This may or may not give some information you recognise

Is there no way you can contact his relatives? They may be able to help
