Avatar and online image

Post by energyuser »

When I upload an avatar of size for example 400x400 it hides/overlaps the "online" image. I want these images to act the other way around: the "online" image SHOULD overlap the avatar... I could've done this myself but I don't understand the new template system and that's why I need some help with the HTML and CSS...

So can i have the code to change this wierd behaviour?

prosilver isn't really set up for those kind of avatar sizes. There's no easy fix for this. You could potentially introduce a new pseudo-element for this, like .postprofile > dt:before and use fixed dimensions, a z-index, etc. etc. but that will ultimately get you in trouble in responsive mode probably.

Alright, any chance of at least seeing this fixed some day?

I set the max avatar size at 150px.
I have never heard of anyone using a avatar 400px in size.
There is nothing that needs to be fixed in the templates.

You could take the avatar out of the profile section and place it in the postbody section above the signature.

That's pretty insane. I would not recommend that at all. You'll break responsive styling, and probably a few extensions as well.

There is a workaround:

Code: Select all

.post.online { background-image: none; position: relative; }
.post.online:after { content: ''; display: block; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; width: 60px; height: 60px; pointer-events: none; background: url('./en/icon_user_online.gif') right top no-repeat; }
This solution will cause problems with old IE in responsive mode because it doesn't support pointer-events, but its not an issue because old IE doesn't exist on modern mobile devices.

Works like a charm! But where exactly should I put this code?

Arty, should I make a separate css file to put that code in? In what directory should I save it? I'm using phpbb 3.1.8 prosilver. Will this code affect image attachments?

Any help would be highly appreciated! I've been looking for a way to automatically resize avatars for ages!!!

no, just add it to any css file in the prosilver/theme folder.

if for some reason it caused problems, simply remove it from the file and refresh everything.

Thanks, Robert. Do you know if this would affect image attachments as well?

Nope, it didn't work for avatars either. I purged the ACP cache and my browser's cache, but nothing happened.

Honestly, this should be a built-in feature by now!
