Remove top header but keep search box

Post by Tonnetje » Tue Jan 06, 2015 6:36 pm

Hello,

I managed to embed the forum in my website, but have some trouble removing the top header.
See my site: http://www.nederlandersinhetbuitenland.org/phpbb/

I like the search box to be moved to the light blue underneath, on the right side, from "board index".

I read somewhere to remove the code for the header, but when I do that, my whole layout messes up.

Please advise.
Thank you

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '}' in /hsphere/local/home/tonnetje/nederlandersinhetbuitenland.org/phpbb/cache/tpl_prosilver_overall_header.html.php on line 152

in your overall_header file you missed deleting something;

see this:

Code: Select all

 <div id="page-header">

		<!-- ENDIF -->
that <!-- ENDIF --> shouldn't be there.

Sorry, wasn't aware, I thought <!--xxx --> was just commentary.
Great it worked! Actually posted another issue, as my font increased after embedding into my website.
But I will wait till that has been approved.

Thanks a lot for your help.

normally <!-- is only a comment. however, in phpbb those that say IF and ENDIF are variables that tell it what to do and as you saw, will throw an error if you have one without the other.

which fonts? where? I dont' see any that look extra large on the board or your home page.

Ah learned something again! I mean the font size of the topic subjects and titles especially. The rest of my site is 10px, when I switch to the forum it seems a lot bigger. Not such a big deal, but if I could change it, it would be better.

not quite sure why, but your css is showing the font size for h2 ( the topic title on viewtopic_body.html ) to be 26px.

I think your problem is that you are including the css for the rest of your site in your overall_header.html file when it is not needed. there may be some conflicts .

try removing these two lines from the head section of the overall header.html file

Code: Select all

<link rel="stylesheet" href="../css/style.css" media="screen"/>
<!--MAIN CSS FILE-->
<link rel="stylesheet" href="../css/blue-dark-layout.css" media="screen"/>

Thank you, that makes sense. I have adjusted my css file and also modified a line for my menu. However the template refresh, does not seem to work. I changed my HOME menu item, from home.html, into index.html. But the changes don't come through. I also purged the cache, just in case. But still no luck. Any ideas?

apparently you have not made the edits you think you have. I can see your overall_header.html file here
http://www.nederlandersinhetbuitenland. ... eader.html
when I view the source of that file this is what I see:

Code: Select all

 <ul class="main-menu">
                     <li><a href="mailto:ton@toporange.com">Contact</a></li>
                    <li><a href="../about.html">About</a></li>
                    <li><a href="../verhuur.php">Vakantie Verhuur</a></li>
                    <li><a href="http://www.nederlandersinhetbuitenland.org/phpbb/">Forum</a></li>
                    <li><a href="../news.html">Nieuws</a></li>

                    <li><a href="../home.html" title="Home">Home </a></li>
                </ul>
make sure you edited the correct file, make sure you uploaded it to the correct place and make sure you refreshed the browser and purged the cache.

It's the same file as above, in the same location,/phpbb/styles/subsilver2/template/overall_header.html and I refreshed and purged the cache. I have tried several times and check on other computers.....

your site is not using subsilver2. it is using prosilver. at least the style that guests see is prosilver.

My common.css for my version of 3.1 has nothing to do with the search box contained within?

Have I missed something? http://politicshub.co.uk/phpBB3/index.php

Thank you,

you are using prosilver_se and that style inherits from prosilver. therefore, you would make the changes to prosilver/theme/common.css instead.

or, copy the relevant code from the prosilver common.css and paste it into your prosilver_se stylesheet.css file and then make the appropriate edits to it there.
