Image resize on forum image

Post by jackanyon » Mon Aug 01, 2016 12:40 pm

Hey everyone,

Apologies if this should fall under a different support category, admin can move it if necessary.

I've setup a phpBB forum, which makes use of the 'Forum image' option in the ACP:
https://courtneys-exotics.uk.to

I've added my pictures and they appear just fine... when on a 'standard' resolution device.

For example, in the image below you can see the Forum image appearing just fine:
car.png
But below, you can see the Forum image rendered on my iPhone.
car-iphone.PNG
As you can see, the images spill over on a mobile browser and don't fit!

I've tried the Alpha of ReIMG, but I can't seem to find much information to do with actual Forum Images, rather than attached inline images within a topic!

Any advice would be massively appreciated!

Jack

Hi Jack :)

Simple fix! Simply add the following to prosilver's responsive.css stylesheet:

Code: Select all

.list-inner img {
    max-width: 100%;
}
Let us know how it goes :)

TBH, those images are way too big mate. For example, here's how it looks on my split 50/50 widescreen 19" monitor...The images are floating underneath the topics/post rows etc.

It gets worse as screen size decreases...

I'd suggest cropping them down to a square about the width of the text (Turtles) for example. Will help load times too.

You sir have saved the remains of my hair which I've been pulling out over this for a while now!!

Thank you very much!

Yeahh, I completely agree with you, just using what I've got at the minute. The images will probably be shrunk by about a third towards the sites finish, just gotta find the time to remake them!

I also agree with you about load times, been testing it on my virgin media 100 down at the minute so haven't really encountered too many loading issues, but again, the images are just placeholders for the newer, most likely smaller images.

Thank you both for your input! :D

You're welcome Jack, glad I could help :)

You can resolve the issue that Neil raised by adding that code to common.css instead of responsive.css, then it'll apply to all device sizes.

Ha, I've just got this myself after having put up with 1.2mb :shock: download from talktalk. I'm pretty blown away :lol:

PS: In functions/display.php you can also specify the image sizes, which helps a little with load times. But your images would all have to be the exact same size ideally. Probably not worth it tbh. Check out GtMetrix for some other ideas if you wanted to look further into it. Bare in mind that editing the core code requires a lot of maintenance now though, as changes will be lost through updates etc.

I'm glad also! Began to think I was going to have to just scrap the images altogether!

Cheers! I'll have a look! The 100 down is probably the best I've used, I still only get around 5 up though!

Anyway, thank you both!!
