Having a question about translating phpBB 3.1? Want to discuss and collaborate with people currently translating phpBB 3.1? Here would be the correct place to do so.

It is for 3.0.10
when I installed 3.1.1 on my test 3.0.12 a lot of translation was missing or was "bad".
I'll read what you suggested.
My bad. :(

I apologise.

andreask, I would like to help for the greek translation too.
As I saw, the language files in 3.1 have been changed, so the old greek translation pack doesn't apply on the new version.
We have to send an application to become official translators, as raul said.
Plus, the greek support-team has to do something with the greek website (phpbbgr.com)

To speed things up a bit, I just finished a big part of the greek 3.1.3 translation, that is everything but the ACP but the ACP part is not small :(
To be quite honest it was more of a migration of the 3.0.12 translation made by tzampatzis and the phpbbgr team, with a few new parts added for 3.1.x, some corrections and some changes.

Depending on my free time, I hope that I will finish it by the end of the next week. Then I will upload it on github so that anybody can contribute to it, fork it, etc.

For information, you can submit your language package with English ACP files.
It's now acceptable. ;)

Don't you work on tzampatzis repository? How many repositories of people working on the greek translation are out there? Why not all work on one?

I didn't work on tzampatzis repo because I was unaware of his availability.
I uploaded my translation on github here: https://github.com/n-aleha/phpbb-el-translation
As I mentioned here, I created an issue in the translation repo of dimitris to discuss changes etc.
See the post by dimitris here for more information about his translation.

I encourage the people that use the translation (e.g. the one by dimitris), to give feedback and state their opinion (preferably via a github issue) in order to create one and good translation.

I want to mention that we should also translate a few extensions, starting from the official ones.

The translation of phpbb 3.0 contains innumerable misspelled and incorrect translations of terms:
  • Θ. Ενότητα: is not a topic section (Θ. Ενότητα), but is a θέμα i.e. (topic)
  • Κορυφαίο θέμα: is not a top topic (κορυφαίο θέμα), but is a δημοφιλές θέμα i.e. (popular topic)
  • BBCode (Bulletin Board Code): is not το BBCode and τα BBCodes, but is ο BBCode and οι BBCodes or ο κώδικας BB and οι κώδικες BB. In my own translation, I used ο BBCode and οι BBCodes (plural form).
  • topic icon: is not topic symbol (σύμβολο θέματος), but is a εικονίδιο θέματος i.e. (topic icon)
And finally what is board into greek?
e.g. in phpBB 3.0, the term board is translated into Δ. Συζήτηση like the term forum into Δ. Συζήτηση as well as κοινότητα, but is neither forum (συζήτηση) or community (κοινότητα), the precise translation for (bulletin) board is πίνακας συζητήσεων or πίνακας ανακοινώσεων.
We have to decide what will be board and what is forum, to avoid confusion.
In my own translation for the term board, I used the term σύστημα συζητήσεων as a mean temporary solution to separate out from the term forum. (finished but not yet on GitHub)

Another unacceptable in translation of phpBB 3.0 is the misuse of the finished v (τελικό ν) in words like: την or στην, instead of the correct: τη or στη and the unacceptable αυτή τη or αυτή την instead of the correct: αυτήν τη or αυτήν την accordingly. (finished but not yet on GitHub)
For την, στην, αυτήν, μην, δεν : the correct way is:
  • στη δημοσίευση instead of στην δημοσίευση
  • στη Δ. Συζήτηση instead of στην Δ. συζήτηση
  • στη βάση instead of στην βάση
  • στον λογαριασμό instead of το λογαριασμό etc.
see here
(Αnother separate translation for phpBB 3.0 will come soon, but until this, currently will not have other changes, except the update into phpBB 3.0.13-PL1.)

Any comment or suggestion is welcome! We need a proper translation for phpBB 3.1, which will not contain all of these mistakes.
