Notice translations of extensions to Portuguese (Brazil)

Post by henrique.seven2011 »

Hello phpBB community;

Some previous translations of Brazilian community, known as SuportephpBB (http://suportephpbb.com.br) rename the folder for the translation of "pt_br" to "pt-br". However, before this change some extensions have been translated into the language, but they are not working. If this is your problem, just look for the folder "pt_br", which is located in the "language" folder, and rename to "pt-br".
If you are one of the developers who have some extent with our translation, we ask you to make the change as mentioned above, as it will facilitate the others.

Already, thanks to all!

Hi,

just two things:
- pt_br is the desired directory name in phpBB
- pt-br is the desired value for 'USER_LANG' in language/pt_br/common.php

So before you change everything to the wrong directory name, please ask the author of the language pack, to change it back to "pt_br".

See: https://area51.phpbb.com/docs/31x/codin ... ranslation Section "Normalisation of language tags for phpBB"

Translations for extensions should follow the same rules as phpBB, so should have a directory name with a underscore (So pt_br)

But the rule is language + region? In the case is Portuguese (Brazil), then conseguentemente be pt-br.
An example of docs is en-US [Inglês (United States)].

Yes, it is. But this is the language iso-code. In the directories of the language files, the - will be replaced with a _. This was the situation in 3.0 and it is still the same in 3.1.

So:
  • en -> directory: en
  • de-x-sie -> directory: de_x_sie
  • pt-br -> directory: pt_br
That is what the coding-guidelines say. :)

Over the years, since phpBB2 was used pt-br. Remained in phpBB3, but in 2011 (phpBB 3.0.9) it was changed to pt_br, according to Coding Guidelines by Translator Manager.

The previous Translator Manager, denied my revision (phpBB 3.0.14) by saying that I should use ISO and directory name the same code: pt-br.

Crizzo, you can read all messages in the validation topic.

As I mentioned the Coding Guidelines and Crizzo quoted above, the right is:
Crizzo wrote:- pt_br is the desired directory name in phpBB
- pt-br is the desired value for 'USER_LANG' in language/pt_br/common.php
So, the correct directory is pt_br. But due the change by the previous Translator Manager I kept as pt-br, I should change in the next update, again :|

I'm sorry for the bad circumstances due to our mistakes on earlier validation processes. :/

No problem, only a small misunderstanding.

Changing this has major repercussions.

1. It is installed as a new lang pack, not swap-in a replacement. So all users on the lang will be reverted to en, and have to reset.

2. All extensions using this will be forced to update, and in the meantime, will not work in the lang. Also just makes it confusing since some boards will have pt-br and others pt_br...depending on who is most up to date or not.

3. Extensions that relied on localization, such as by relying on the lang_id to load dynamic data for it will also break. Like this kind of worrisome thing: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... pic/166831

This change is a BC break. As such, it should have been saved for a 3.2.x release IMO.
