[hide] BBCode and some chat

Post by infinitiv »

So, are there any extensions for adding classical [hide] BBCode? I really like 3.1, but my forum needs this one! It also needs some chat - I know that mChat wouldn't be supported for 3.1, but are there any alternatives?

BBcodes haven't changed. You don't need an extension for them.

I know they haven't changed, but I'm not talking about [spoiler] BBCode. [hide] BBCode allows users to hide their messages from guests and users who didn't post a reply in their topic.

To be more specific, this extension would be perfect.

You can have a look at this extension:
[BETA] Advanced BBCode Box 3.1

There is a [hide] bbcode in there.
If you have a specific extension request and you are willing to pay for, you can write me a PM.

That BBCode hides its content from guests, not users who didn't reply in topic (and its maker said that will be no support for that), but thank you anyway.

@infinitiv ; I've been looking into that one too; there isn't any extension for yet. If there are enough people wanting this extension I might look into it.

It would be great! I'm crossing my fingers for this!

It's the only strong reasson why I can't yet update to phpBB3.1, the other one being no real mChat alternative (since Ajax Shoutbox developed by Paul wouldn't support avatars).
I'm running RPG forum with partially hidden character sheets and [hide] is something what we really need.

+1! Hide would be really useful. You would be suprised by amount of forums using it. Being able to switch to 3.1 is always a good thing.

I will take a look into it.
But I think I can't contact the original author. Don't know if I can just take his code without asking.

I've tried to contant him via SourceForge a couple of weeks ago, but he didn't reply to my message since.

Anyway I think if author didn't want money for his mod in first place then it's free to change it. I saw some mods converted to extensions without gaining its original authors permissions and nobody complained about it.

Wolfsblvt and I have had a little chat and concluded I'll take the porting of the mod on me. Good to know you've already contacted the author on sourceforge. I just sent a PM to him, hopefully he does reply in some way.

I too think it won't be too much of a problem, especially because of the GPL license. I'll create a topic dedicated to this mod/ext soon.

+1 for [hide] BBCode! I like that BBCode so much so update to 3.1 is unthinkable.
