I switched to cron mode to overcome this problem.

have a look here: https://wiki.phpbb.com/PhpBB3.1/RFC/Modular_cron
Use system cron

In order to use the system cron you need to be able to set up cron jobs on your server.

First of all, enable the 'Run periodic tasks from system cron' setting in the 'Server settings' tab of the ACP.

Now you need to set up a periodic cron job. This depends on your system, but you usually have to edit /etc/crontab and add a job that runs every minute in the following format.

* * * * * cd "/path/to/board"; ./bin/phpbbcli.php cron:run

Note: The 'cd' is needed because all paths within phpBB are relative.
so if you have access to cron jobs on your server put something like
*/15 * * * * cd "/path/to/board"; ./bin/phpbbcli.php cron:run
in your crontab or create a new file in /etc/cron.d and every 15 minutes phpbb cron is running and will check your rss feeds.

General Error

I have mine set to init on index and it seems when I load the webpage it sometimes throws that error. seems to be correlated to when it fetches a data stream.
The plugin author said, that this is a bug in phpbb itself. Cron mode is also not working at all. So we have to live with this minor error, I think.

I do not have access to command line cron jobs for my hosting package. Is there any possibility to make it working without cronjobs? The feeds are only loading once, directly after saving them....anybody who can support me?

My Smartfeed mod allowed the import of news sources into a board's feed. It did not however post these in the forum. It was suggested I put this feature back in my extension but it was something I chose not to do in the interest of expediency. It may appear in a future version.

In my development environment I was able to integrate an external feed into my Smartfeed extension, similar to what I had working in the Smartfeed mod. I used SimplePie.

No, sorry. It's designed to expose posts as feed items beyond the default of ATOM built into phpBB.

Then this Ext and your Ext are completely different in purpose.

How do you get around copyright issues? It seems to me if the content is copyrighted in a feed, there has to be a way to detect it, show a summary and put a link to the source content. A lot of feeds provide a teaser only.

The RSS importer only shows a part of the content and a link to the original content.
I have never heard of a feedprovider that does not WANT to spread the content, that is the purpose of the feed IMO.

Hm, I cant upload screenshots ...
Just an example.
