Hello ,
would be nice if someone would prepare the Mod " Smileys Categories " for phpBB 3.1.x .
Official download link: https://github.com/EXreaction/phpBB-Mod ... Categories
But I have the " Smileys Categories 1.0.5 and 1.0.6 " on my computer.
Best regards, Archivar Sorry for my English Google Translation.
EDIT: doing some initial testing on this extension with 3.1.10 and it allows members (or just admins) to add smilies (in categories) under quick links. Link could be moved to the posting page as an example, by changing the name of the event. It uses a bbcode to add the smilie to a post.
It does not allow the admin to categorize the "boards" smilies. Unless you remove the board smilies and add them through this extension. (not my personal choice)
Could be fun for a board that is open to it's members adding / sharing smilies. Only thing I've noticed so far is the gif smilies don't seem to work correctly (don't move). Could just be my test board but ...
I installed that on my 3.2.2 board and I couldn't figure out how to get it to work. I was able to create a folder in the ACP but I couldn't find a way to add smilies to it. A "sam" BB code button appeared on the posting window, but I wasn't sure how to properly use it. I really wish there was just some form of simple categorization for smilies that have been added to the board already. I hate that they are all just blobbed together with pagination.
EDIT: I found this with more info here but I'm a bit afraid to try to install it because it's not a true extension as it calls for editing a bunch of core files and I'm sure I'll break a bunch of stuff trying to get it to work. That, and I was relying on google translate to help me understand the instructions. A recipe for disaster for sure.

The issue isn't how to get the smilies uploaded, but how to present them to the user. Currently, I have about 25 smilies visible on the posting page, and a link that opens a paginated pop-up window that has about 9 pages of smilies contained within.
There used to be a mod a long time ago, that allowed me to separate my vast horde of smilies into separate windows. I had multiple categories that could be accessed via buttons (or links) in the posting window. So instead of a catch-all "more smilies" link that lumped the whole mess into one window, I had (for a non-specific example):
Traditional
Dark Theme
Kittens
Game
Monkeys
When a user tapped the Game, link or button, they'd get a pop-up window with a selection of game themed smilies that was maybe a page or two at the most. Much more manageable IMHO.
I know the true solution to my problem is to just reduce my smilie collection to manageable levels, but I've been collecting them since 2003 and I'd rather just find a better way to manage them all rather than throw them in the trash.
Sorry for the the novel! I get passionate about really odd and unimportant things.
